The Department of Orthopaedic surgery is a fully developed department with all the
infrastructure and support services as recommended by the MCI. The Dept. has committed
full time faculty; highly trained, dedicated and experienced Orthopaedic specialists
qualified from prestigious medical colleges of India with versatile skills.
Our department is an excellent and harmonious amalgamation of youth, exuberance,
experience and ambition which has grown up as the largest department in UP. With
the committed bed strength of 90 with additional beds in emergency ward and SICU,
the service caters to all facets of Orthopaedic discipline, besides being a high
standard tertiary referral centre for highway trauma.
Our Orthopaedic surgeons have diverse expertise and are committed to provide effective
solutions for children and adults with a wide range of Orthopaedic problems from
broken bones to spinal disorders, from crippling arthritis to sports injuries.
Apart form high standard clinical and surgical care, our department is pioneering
high quality research, documentation and organization of academic meetings and courses.
The department successfully organized and conducted a high quality UP PGICL (post
graduate Instruction a Course for UP Orthopaedic Association) from 7th -9th November
2008 which was highly appreciated and well attended by all the students.
The departmental faculty is in the chairmanship of the Meerut Orthopaedic Association
and it prides itself that one of the faculty members is in the editorial board of
a reputed International Journal encouraging research publications from all the faculties
of medical college.
The faculty has academic affiliations with prestigious international societies and
attends prestigious international and national academic meetings regularly.
The departmental mission is to provide highest quality patient care, improve mobility
and enhance the quality of life for all and to impart highest quality medical education
in Orthopaedics to the medical undergraduate students and inculcating them a sense
of academic and clinical fulfillment and confidence.

a) KNOWLEDGE :
|
|
|
The student shall be able to :
1. Explain the principles of recognition of bone injuries and dislocation;
2. Apply suitable methods to detect and manage common infections of bones and joints;
3. Identify congenital, skeletal anomalies and their referral for appropriate correction
or rehabilitation;
4. Recognize metabolic bone diseases as seen in this country;

b) SKILLS :
|
|
|
At the end of the course, the student shall be able to :
1. Detect sprains and deliver first aid measures for common fractures and sprains
and manage uncomplicated fractures of clavicle, Colles’s, forearm, phalanges etc.;
2. Use techniques of splinting, plaster, immobilization etc.;
3. Manage common bone infections, learn indications for sequestration, amputation
and corrective measures for bone deformities;
4. Advise aspects of rehabilitation for Polio, Cerebral Palsy and Amputation.

c) APPLICATION :
|
|
|
1. Be able to perform certain Orthopaedic skills, provide sound advice of skeletal
and related conditions at primary or secondary health care level.
2. Two microscopes – one Zeiss and one Leica
3. Phacoemulsification machine with facilities for anterior and posterior Vitrectomy-Geuder
4. Three pulse oxymeters
5. General Anesthesia facilities available with central gas supply.
6. Auto speed sterlizer
7. Audio-visual facilities to see live surgery.
8. Keratoplast and oculoplasty facilities are available
9. Vitreo-retinal surgery facilities are also available

d) INTEGRATION :
|

|
1. Integration with anatomy, surgery, pathology, radiology and Forensic Medicine
be done.
