The department of Dermatology, STD & Leprosy at the Subharti Medical College is
at pace with the changing times , in disseminating knowledge to the present day
medical students and in providing the best dermatological as well as aesthetic care
to the appearance-conscious general public.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES FOR THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME:
|

|
[1] knowledge : The under graduate student is given exposure of this fascinating
specialty so at to make him acquire skills that enable him to diagnose and successfully
treat common ailments and to identify and refer rare diseases and uncommon variations
of commoner dermatoses for the care under a specialist. By the end of the lectures
and postings the student is equipped with:
(a) sound knowledge of common diseases, their clinical manifestations, including
emergent situations and of investigative procedures to confirm the diagnosis.
(b) Awareness of various modes of topical therapy
(c) Understanding of the mode of actions of various drugs, their doses, side effects/toxicities,
indication and contra-indications and interactions. (d) Knowhow of common modes
of management including various surgical procedures so as to have a comprehensive
plan of management for a given disorder
[2]skills : the undergraduate becomes capable of
(a) interviewing patients to elicit relevant and correct information and describe
the history in a chronological order.
(b) conducting clinical examination, eliciting and interpreting physical findings
and diagnose common disorders and emergencies.
© performing simple, routine investigative and lab procedures required for making
the bedside diagnosis, specially the examination of scrapings for fungus’ preparation
of slit smears and staining for AFB for Leprosy patients and for STD cases.
(e) taking skin biopsy for diagnostic purposes.
(f) Managing common diseases recognizing the need for referral for specialized care,
in case of inappropriateness of therapeutic response.
